Mods for a 1962 1200 T1 Beetle

Hello All,

I have a stock 1962 1200 Beetle and I would like to add a bit more grunt without going down the whole new engine route.

The only mods done so far is the 6 to 12volt convertion and a 009 dizzy

Mick Motors is selling Econo Extractors of 1200cc for around $130.

I am also looking at updating the carb to a Pict 31.

Would it be possible to upgrading the 009 to an electronic system?

Are their any other Cheap mods possible?

Will any of this make a difference, or will I be throwing away my money and just save money for a decent 1776cc and a gearbox out of a 1500.

Your probally wasting money but if you want the period stuff then what your doing is good, twin carbies will give you more torque and power but there a bit had to find these days

You can add some rockers of a 1600 engine there 1.1 ratio so it will give you slightly more valve lift

Thanks for that

Would it be possible to install another 28pict carb to make my engine twin carb. If so, are there any single port kits (ie manifolds, linkages, etc) which can be purchased or manufactured?

yes the twin carby kit was made by Ken Virgin in the 60s n early 70s

They used the 28 carbys but as i said very hard to find now days

it would be cheaper to make a larger cube engine to bolt in than to make yours go harder as the manifolds, linkages etc to tune yours would cost lots to buy or make.

1200's dont like to go hard either :spin: (that should wake some up)
