This is a no brainer for lots of you I am sure but how do I get the axles out of my 1500 swing axle gearbox - I have undone the nuts holding the
little side plate on so I can now see the plastic collar inside and have undone the larger side plate but it won't budge.
Any help is appreciated.
Cheers
Alan
Just inside the gearbox, surrounding the axle, is a very large circlip which fits in a groove in the gearbox housing and holds the axle inside the
box.
Just remove the clips (one each side) and the axles will come out.
Presuming the outer axle tube hasn't come off yet??
You need to pull the axle bearing off the axle. Get a puller that can screw into two of the four bolt holes where the backing plate bolts to. Simply
wind the bearing and outer tube of the axle (you also need to have undone the side cover which you said you have done.) Then you need to take the
circlip out as stated above.
Good Luck
Graham
Thanks for that - the pulley was required to get the bearing off before even getting to the circlip.
