Choke cable ??
BASHOdi - July 7th, 2007 at 11:37 AM
I'm going to be running a choke cable in my 64 probably get to it next week I have a reasonable idea where I'm going to route it but where I think
it will go ?????? working on the principal of following a muck cart because it was "thought" to be a wedding ensures there will be pitfalls --I
would welcome any comments.
So if anyone has put one of these suckers in and has any advice my ears are flapping.
The run through the tunnel tube for this in the early models is -sadly- not there.

whats wrong with setting up the standard auto choke properly?

Firstly I agree with John Muir of the Idiot's Guide about automatic chokes. Disable them. They are unreliable.
The thing to remember is that the more bends in the cable the greater the stiffness of the movement in the system, so keep bends to a minimum in
number and a maximum in radius.
I've not done that in a Beetle but I've seen a set up where the cable was run through the air cooling shroud, in a tube like the accelerator cable
is, through the rear fire wall and along the top of the tunnel to a knob just in front of the hand brake. Basically follow the line of the accelerator
cable and you won't go wrong.
Make sure that you get your angles right and that things are such that the cable has a smooth curved line without sharp bends in it.
Happy fiddling. Before this little job is over I'm sure you will have tested your patience.

Aint got one , is one avaiable for this 38mmtwin throat webber ? not sure where to look or who to ask.
Imageshack pics: click on pic and then wait 300 years for enlargement.
Hi shaihulud I've an idea that I'm going to run it from the origional dash hole--which is still there --and is currently carrying
the isolator switch for the second stereo system-- red switch
--which can then move to the middle centre which at the present time does nothing I inherited the hole along with the car and filled it with a
variable speed windscreen wirer swich cause I had one laying round and it looked better than a grommet , thru the firewall behind the accelerator
sticky outy bit down the side of the tunnel at floor level and out thu the rear on the passengers side--this is where it's going to get interesting
as the cable needs to come in to the left of carby (as you wiew the engine from rear) due to the pull required on the carby's choke I'm thinkin I
may be able to twin in its own caseing alongside the throttle cable ???????? if not it's going to ?? go around the left hand side housing ?? or
thru the housing in its own tube whilst missing the doghouse ?? whatever it's going to be fun I suspect
I'd rather hoped someone had done this before as I'm a lazy prat and now probably have to actualy stop to think and work it out --theres no
justice.
Cheers Al.
