Last time I did the clutch I re-used the thrust bearing. Unlike the old carbon ones they last forever BUT u need to check the spigots for wear AND
the fricken holes on the ends for the clips. I didn't & paid the prce! A clip fell off & the bearing fell off the forks! Why? Wear on the spigot
shaft & an oval hole on the end. It had obviously been rattling. Ah well! Ur never too old to learn they say. Funnier still, I thought it was the
cable (at the pedal end) but I didn't spot the problem untill I took it out-only after I used bolt-cutters to chop it at the eng end to
"facilitate" the removal of a perfectly good cable!

AAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRGGH SCHEISS HAPPENS
had a similar prob years ago in my oval... started the car up and it wouldn't go in gear.. stopped the engine and it went in fine. cable was ok... had to drive it home without a clutch. pulled the engine out and the thrust bearing had shifted due to one of the clips coming off and had repositioned behind one of the forks... the clip was sitting in the gearbox housing. I had to do some engine work etc anyways so i replaced the clutch and thrust bearing while it was all out.
Did a gearbox swap last weekend..
Replaced the clutch and it came with a new bearing.. don't they all come with a new bearing?

best early throw out bearing clips are the sprung ones, not the original style.
they are much easier to fit if you dont have the knack of fitting the original ones down.
I just pulled an engine out of a guys car here the other week for resto, that he had been driving for years....
one clip in the bottom of the bell housing, and the other up in the starter motor housing.
Somehow it managed to stay put!!

If you keep the correct pedal adjustment it can't fall off.
