Complete Loss of Power
Ich fahre ein Kdf ein Tag - July 23rd, 2007 at 09:57 AM

My beetle 1100 motor (58 model with 55 motor) i think is on the way out. It wont stay timed for very long (atleast thats my theory). The trouble I am having is it starts really well and idles okish bit rough when cold but once it is warm it behave strangely and will not accelerate. You can idle and thats it, no power in the pedal. Many things have been checked such as the dizzy, generator, fuel delivery, vacuum advance and still no answer. Figure I am in need of a new engine and the 52 year old motor is buggered. I dont want to waste anymore money on the wrong diagnosises. Anyone got any ideas? And it is ok to say new motor but if you say that you have to find me one!

Check the compression.

Also if it has an oilbath aircleaner, check it to see if it's blocked. I've seen a few dubs stop because of this.

Can't think of any direct explanations for those symptoms sorry.....pity you are so far away in Hobart - I am just about to pull my 36hp engine and gearbox out of the 54 oval to sell (not reconditioned but runs like a champ!).

Hmmmm....have a close look at the carb - check down the throat when someone blips the throttle - is there a nice stream of petrol coming out of the little jet - is the butterfly opening up properly etc? Just a thought.

I'd do a compression check.
