I remember being told that the fuel guage reading can be adjusted - mine is wayyyy out - anyone know how?
And also whats involved in taking out the fuel sender on a late model tank (72 74 bugs) and replacing it with another?

dont worry if its not reading correct when full or 3/4 full as mine dosent read accurate Either...
and i dont Know how you can adjust that end of the scale.
Whats is most important is your reserve and 1/4 full readings, and even the 1/2 full reading.
My tank ( 40hp beetle ) holds 40 liters and when i pull in and fill up when gauge is indicating 1/4 it takes exxactly 30 litres.
and like wise on reserve it take 35 litres.
THESE ARE THE MOST IMPORTANT READINGS SO DO A LITTLE TEST
NEXT TIME YOU PULL INTO THE FUEL STOP..
You can fit any of the none super bug sender to the any of teh non superbug tanks.

To adjust you need the arm type sender and you siply bend the sender to reposition the float to where you wish the variable resistor to send teh
message to the guage from ..

Being at 3/4 when its really full doesnt bother me.
But it can say i have just under 1/4 but i'll run out of fuel and be stranded!!
(I have so many petrol tins at home now!)
Other times it can get to empty - pull in and fill up and its half full!
It takes 40 litres from empty to full...
It might be the trembler thingingingyyyy on the back of the fuel gauge..
There bloody hard to find in good nick n working.

The sender is removed buy turning it anti clockwise a little with a special tool, you can use a pair of multigrips fully extended and just fit the
jaws into the slots on the side.
Take your sender, guage & vibrator (little silver box on the back of the speedo, get your mind out the of your undies) to Barry at St George
Instruments in Planthurst Rd at Carlton, near the corner of Belvue Pde, he can fix it for you. Also its a good idea to replace the O ring under the
sender.
