I have had torsion bar adjusters fitted to My front suspension in My 68autobug... and Now I can't get the torsion bars back in thru the
new adjusters.... anyone have any similar problems?? I can get half of them thru OK but the other half just won't be in it... The adjusters were
fitted by a fitter who has done many of these and He has Beetles of His own... too
HELP....:o:bounce:bounce:bounce:bounce:bounce:bounce:o
I am going to presume that he has put the correct adjuster in for your spring packs and thet you have pulled both grun screws out.
I usually clamp the pack togeather very tightly and run a bead on weld through the end of all leaves. This keeps them tight. If you don't like
this way you can use elc tape or cable ties to hold the ends tight. Put the tape / ties on about 10 - 20 mm from the end. Ensure it is close enough to
keep the ends tight. Then you put them through. The elec tape / ties will slide up the pack once you start pushing them through the centre retainer in
teh adjuster.
I use to do it this way until I started tack welding them and now I would never go back.
Dad and I put a hose clamp on the end, tightened it up heaps so that the pack was tight, then put a zip tie on it and took the clamp off. Easy, and the clamp did the tightening really well.
Thanks for the replies..
I'll try the hose clamp and cable ties and if that doesn't work... I'll get the welder out.... thanks again... I can put the angle
grinder away now.....:o

the hose clamp worked great on the top torsion bar leaves...but no such luck with the bottom ones yet... still trying though..
