"what are my options" - That is THE hardest question to answer

How much do YOU want to spend

How much are you going to do your self

The simplest answer is to read the options given on this site

http://www.aircooled.net/gnrlsite/resource/articles.htm

First read "getting the most of you stock VW"
These are "bolt on" options that dont involve splitting the case

Then read "deciding to build a hi po VW"

i'd like a bit more power, but not over the top, and a good price. i don't have the biggest budget at the moment so i'm just doing little things

The first thing I did was throw on a set of extractors on my T3. Minor perf lift, but some good noise!

It's cheap, and you can do it yourself in 30 mins.

Squiz.....

Do what I wanna do, find a Combi motor and stuff it in the back

type3kid - May 16th, 2003 at 07:15 PM

what will that do performance wise?
difficulty?

vw_carrera - May 16th, 2003 at 07:28 PM

performance would be quiet a remarkable difference. as i understand it type III's generate about 65hp and a combi has about 90, that's about a 20% increase. difficulty..........? well i'm about to find out. i have posted 'Combi fi 2ltr into a Type III Fasty' with some questions, looking for some answers. but hey, how hard could it be?

i have no idea. i'll keep an eye on yours. if i hear anything i'll let you know

dont go a bus engine as they cost heaps to buy, costs heaps to re-co and is a bit of work to get fitted correctly. and not too mention weigh a frikin tonne !

Go talk to your mech. and he should point u in the right direction, prices and all.
maybe a 1776 with a good cam to start and then save for some bigger carbies.
If u put extractors on u wont have heating :(

vw_carrera - May 17th, 2003 at 01:48 PM

would anyone here know the weight difference between the two?
'Cause admittedley that's one of my many concerns of making a Combi powered Fasty. As for not having heaters, it's been about 6 winters ago since I've had 'em hooked up! Besides, if I go a 2ltr fi, no modifications will be applied, too many bad as well as expensive experience's over the years

that has done it themselves.?
Think his name is Heath he works at this VW specialist out west ( Syd ) you could call 4722 9313 and ask them.
My suggestion would be the Extractors , ( can the air cleaner be made less restrictive ? ) and a Good tune, Could you go slightly lower profile tyres as this will give it quicker acceleration.
