Guys.!!! i'm now committed to lowering my splitty. ( Iv' e three sons and the all want it lowered now) and i'm going the indian automotive way, i'e net front end and IRS rear, but does any one have any opinion on if that is the way to go!!!!! am i spending the money in the right place or what!!!! bloody lots of moola for the stuff!!!! any alternatives?????? fish( the broke) :bounce:bounce:bounce
cheap way, remove reduction boxes, ie swing axle conversion 3-3 1/2 " lowered rear. not hard and very cheap mod buy my 1500 swing axle tubes
brakes swing plates etc I have (see buy sell swap)from a 68 bug and the kits almost complete ,IRS is better suspension( argue here) but extra $1000
odd.
Then if you front end is Ok get adjusters on it $300 fitted of go drop spindles , $500 exchange but use same shockies etc. These front end mod s are
good if your front end does not need rebuild if it does then go 68 69 bay beam route , more hassel and expense but ball joints last longer than link
pins are cheaper to replace and you can fit discs easy, but if you want wide five wheels then more $ or stay with the drums.
If you use your Kombi alot esp if it included highway work then ball jiont and discs are a good thing.
If you are broke dont do a lot of miles then swingaxle no reduction boxes, wide five , drop spindles are a good thing.
My 50 cents Mitchell
P.S. I am going IRS rear and drop spindle front so you figure?

If you plan on keeping the bus do it right with I.R.S. and either dropped spindles or 68 beam, depending on the condition of the link pins etc, and whether you want adjustment. Also depends what wheels you want to run in the future. Alot of people seem to put in the straight axle kit, then swap it later to irs, waste of time and money. Why dont you just put 1/2 in plates on the ends of the tubes, chop out 4in, tub the arches, put on drop spindles, weld in I.R.S and be skint for a bit. Peanut butter samwiches have never tasted so good. Check out franklinsvwwerks.com..... out like the gov.
