Depends on what shifter you are looking at? Some shifters have the reverse lock out button on the left or right hand side depending on whether it's a left or right hand drive.
I'm pretty sure Scat shifters, as with mine, they are universal as they just have the reverse lockout cable in the centre?

Thanks Mate but as per the link, i`m looking at the Dragfast Quickshifter with the lockout in the front side of it http://www.jbugs.com/store/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=80503&Catego... but i want to make sure it will work as the U.S shift pattern is differrent from the right hand drive as i can see, cant get a response from scat as yet, anyone?

I've got one in my buggy.....bloody good to use...

qldcabmatt - October 7th, 2007 at 01:06 AM

Thanks mick, i know they work and are good, but my question is, are there left and right hand drive versions or are they universal?

xornge666x - October 7th, 2007 at 01:39 AM

they are completely universal for left and right hand drive. ive fitted them to both.
They do however come in angled (pre 67 beetle) and straight (post 67 beetle & type 3)

Thanks xornge666x, that was what i was after.:thumb

I think thats what everyone was saying anyway mate?
i.e: shift pattern is the same, they just sit on a different side to us, and reverse lockout is in the centre of the shifter. I know, cos we have 2 cars with them installed...
Even if you buy a Scat shifter from here, chances are it was originally ordered from the U.S anyway

Yes they do come in left and right hand drive as in the bus shifter they will lean closer to the driver which if it is the wrong one you will have trouble reaching it .
Also be carefull when purchasing bus ones that you dont order a splitty shifter for a bay or the other way around as they will NOT fit in the wrong model.

kombibob - October 7th, 2007 at 09:27 AM

the scat shifter in my bus does not lean closer to the driver or the passenger (just straight up), just like the one fitted to our bug.
also the scat website makes no mention of left and right hand drive models.

Well. i think the general consensus is that they are universal, so i think all systems go for a buy up from the us, i think my new fav word is billet
thanks guys
feel free to give more opin`s of the different ones, i`m thinking scat dragfast

HI Matt

I only make the drag fast shifters for left hand drive
cars,

they could be universal

the difference would be which side of the tee handle
the reverse lockout isand the angle of the tee handle on the
shifter ( I dont' know who makes one with a different angle
handle - you could probably modify the tee handle if you
did not like the feel of it

I think gene berg used to make one for the bus, you might
check with him !

That sounds suss. The T handle for the reverse lockout sits in the middle, not angled to any side. Just sounds like he can't be bothered selling overseas like alot of places. Why not buy locally? They are all ordered from the U.S most of the time anyway?
Let me know if you want photo's, i'm sure i can take some photos of my shifters for you? If not, find a supplier, and check them out for yourself, thats probably your best bet.

Thanks ash, i think he might mean the angle of the t in relation to your hand, as in, thicker on one side than the other?, anyhow, i`m getting one!!!
thanks to all for the advice
