how do I get the damned thing out??
type 3 with IRS, trying to remove motor and box, but the hardest part is getting the damned gear linkage off.
it seems to be an 8mm square headed bolt, so I cant even use any of my good sockets on the bloody thing.
anyone got suggestions, an oxy or similar is fairly much out of the question.
oh and its Ryan BTW not Danielle shes just logged in.
They normally aren't tight, so a spanner or shifter will do the trick. Just remember to remove the safety wire first
yeah use an open ender that fit and make sure the wire is cut off
hmm, we must have a tight one for some reason, pulled the lockwire off, and turning as hard as I can with an open ended spanner (being careful not to
let it slip arond and ruin it all)
I gave it a good soak with WD so with a little luck it will come undone tomorrow with a bigger shifter.
hit it on the head with a hammer a few times, if it doesn't help loosen any rust holding it in then at least it will make you feel better
that sounds real good in theory wes, problem is, once I hit it, the head will probably get damaged and the bloody thing will never come out. and its not actually rusty, its fairly greasy looking in there.
vice grips if it it gets damaged
use a 3/8 inch extension and use the female end on the head of the square drive to undo it u can use a spanner or shifter on the male end EASY

heat it with a plumbers torch than dump cold water on that will snap all rust and break it free from whatever is holding it
