1600 into oval
oval TOFU - December 11th, 2007 at 04:27 PM

Hey all
Just wondering, will a stock 1600 (SP or TP) fit into the engine bay of an oval? I'm currently running a 1200 40HP and the rocker cover spring on 1 and 2 is really close to the body work already. From what I know, a 40HP engine's strokeis 64 or 65mm whereas a 1600 is 69mm.. so a 1600 engine would be wider yeh?

Thanks

Yep 1200 is a 64mm crank. 1600 is slightly wider. You will probably have more problems with tinware fitting in engine bay than the rocker cover clearance.

Chris

you have to cut a bit of the heater box away on the top to allow the engine o fit also remove some of the inner guard lower rib to allow the rocker clip to fit

bit of trial n error and cutting

what gearbox do you have as you may need torelieve the 4 high spots to allow the flywheel to fit into the housing

big hammer and a sharp chisel we have 2 in the club ovals running 1916 with no worries its the clutch and flywheel that r a bother

tinware shouldn't be too much of a problem. I'm handy with a pair of tinsnips and a big phuq-off hammer
