Steering box grease?
matara - December 28th, 2007 at 08:22 PM

The steering box on my 65 Type 3 Notch has developed a leak, most probably from lack of use. The cars done 84,000 miles from new and before I stopped using it regularly the steering was perfect, no slop at all. I've heard of people refilling the box with grease to overcome small leaks. Anyone know what type of grease you should use? I was thinking of using CV grease.

Cheers

Steve

Hi

I like a mixture of STP or similar with some wheel bearing grease.

Your 40+ year old grease has probaly 'broken down'

I've used grease in teh lower half of the box with gearbox oil to top it up; seems to have worked okay for 15+ years
