Air fuel ratio
Stanley - January 11th, 2008 at 07:12 PM

I'm looking at fitting an air fuel ratio meter/guage to my turbo. Looked into the jaycar unit http://www.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=KC5300&CATID=&keywords=fu... but the bosch sensor is fairly expensive.

Anybody had any dealings with this unit or any other types.

Cheers

Stanley
I have had a KC5300 kit for some time.Yes, the LSM11 (Bosch Motorsport) sensor is expensive, but it has a lot more range on the lean side (up to 19:1).
I didn't see the value in knowing how lean the engine was, if it's lean, fix it. I was more interested in how rich the car is running. I purposely set up my Bugspray rich to allow the engine to live!
I
I ended up using a cheap VN Commodore single wire Bosch sensor and it works fine. It reads within a minute of the car starting from cold.
I would double check the output reading accuracy of the unit with a wide band sensor on a dyno etc.
I ended up drilling a hole in the rear of the mixture meter box so I could adjust the unit without pulling it apart
I would also recommend looking at this site http://www.techedge.com.au/
They also have similar style readers but use a wide band sensor
Hope it helps

We've got the LED version at work that gets used occasionally.....I like it as it goes from green,yellow,red....easier to see whats happening rather than numbers.

i use a 3 wire univeral heated sensor on mine
it was only $50 from enginesensorsandsystems
its running without heat connected atm and u can really notice the difference, it takes a few mins to start working and does nothing at idle

i agree with 11cab
i just got one of those LED bar graph style gauges too
it matches the rest of my gauges perfectly
i originally got one of these ones from jaycar
but i wasnt real impressed with it and i hate having to build shit like that it didnt work properly and jumped all over the place heaps
u get what u pay for and when it comes down to it nothing matches a wideband

Thanks guys.
The Tech Edge one with the round gauge style meter and the LED's around the outside looks ok. And you don't have to build it which is a bonus.
I'm pretty sure it's running rich as the plugs are always sooty, but at full noise I want to be sure.

thanks again

what about this one ?

Looks OK ?

I use one from http://www.innovatemotorsports.com/.  They have an Australian agent from Qld shown on website. I have the LC1 cable that connects to laptop or a standard multimeter

Both units look good. The CB unit is a fairly good price to. The innovate has the advantage of being able to interface with a computer, but is probably more than what I require.

I'm still leaning (no pun) towards the tech edge unit. I sent an email to the owner and had a reply back in an hour....on a Sunday. I think being a locally produced unit would be an advantage if only for warranty.

Cheers

i have used tech edge and can highly recomend them they use a bosch sensor which costs around $70-$80, this is a windeband unit far better than a norrow band kit such as the jaycar stuff.

76bug - January 18th, 2008 at 08:45 AM

oh yeah and mainline dyno's use a techedge wideband unit

Judsons4eva - January 18th, 2008 at 09:34 AM

The innovate may look expensive but the price includes the wideband sensor - so when you factor that in it is not too bad.

i agree the innovate is a good unit, there are a few good options out there

I've used the PLX devices M300 that links directly into my engine management as well though I sold that with my other car. Ive replaced it with a DM100 with the wideband kit. Its not cheap but something that works well generally never is.
