EJ20T water pump without water??
GTMac - January 14th, 2008 at 06:04 PM

Hi guys, as my resto continues I will need to move car around (only up driveway and onto trailer). The engine is staying in but the radiator is coming out. Firstly if the engine is only running for 60sec max, will it hurt the engine and secondly would any damage be done to the water pump without water running through it or is it sealed and water has nothing to do with it?

Thanks, Andrew

i have run jap engines previously without water. My advice would be it should be ok but be mindful of how long you leave it running.

OK cool, was simply to get up on trailer really so have it positioned, start up and drive on.

it will be fine
i had to drive my ex;s BMW for nearly 3kms with no water cos the stupid plastic top tank that they have on the radiator cracked open
its still running fine to this day
theyre just an impella doesnt matter if theres water in there or not

well intially when it first happend the ECU shut the engine down so it didnt cook
but i had to get it from my place to my folks so i could change the rad over
so once it was stone cold i made the dash for it
made it fine and has done 12,000kms since
