Link Pin Front End Setup.....I need the shim chart for camber setup !!
Craig Torrens - March 4th, 2008 at 10:02 PM

Does anyone have the chart that shows how many inner and outer shims are need for a beetle link/king pin front end ??

The chart shows the measurement between the arms and then relates to a conversion table for the shims.

If someone could please post for me as I'm wanting to install my new stub axles to my 60 bug.

cheers

Here you go....quickly typed it up for you from a book I have....
Mind you, it doesn't say if A B C or D are outer or inner dimensions. Sorry

It wont hurt to put a protractor on the stub as well.
The shims chart assumes everything else (arms and beam) is straight and in original spec.

where do you put the protractor ??

All I do is run a straight edge off the lower arm (the flat where the link pin goes) vertically past the upper arm and measure the gap which then corresponds to the shim options on the chart......................is this not right ??

trial and error once the stub axle is pulled up against the trailing arms.
I put a protractor against the surface where the backing plate goes.

yeah thats right measure the gap between the upper n lower trailing arms then check the chart

Daves check with the protractor would be after its all together to double check that its right but the car must be sitting flat and level

but the above statement above saying that all things are straight and fitting correctly very true

and wear the link pin bushes into a nice oval shape real quick...

Craig Torrens - March 6th, 2008 at 09:28 AM

just kidding about the neg camber.........thought that would get a response

You can do if you want

but you wont go around corners like JVL or even a straight line
