Headlights - problems!
benno_h - March 8th, 2008 at 04:24 PM

Hiya guys,
so I have a '58 T1. She was converted to 12V at some point, but the old headlights were retained with just the bulbs changed.

I can't seem to get a replacement bulb! I attached a pic of what it looks like - anyone know where I can get some of these?

My other problem is, the reflectors are shot. Is it possible to get new reflectors? I called Mick Motors but the lady on the phone didn't really seem to know much...

Or is it worth replacing the headlights all together?

Thanks!
Benno

Globes are available from www.classicandvintagebulbs.com

You can re-silver your reflectors to look like new.

They aren't cheap, but a pair of H4s will give you all the light you will ever need.

Are you talking about H4 bulbs? I don't see how they would fit...

if you not worried about origionality with the lights then you woul be better off changing to the later lights with the 3 pin globes and different reflectors

give Vintage a call to get the new reflectors and some quartz halogen globes your headlights will be brighter

Not just the bulb. What I'm suggesting is to fit a complete H4 headlight assembly, so not cheap.

A cheap alternative that will give you good lights is to fit complete Morris Mini Minor headlight buckets into the hole. I get mine for about $20 complete with sealed beams. You need to make up a small angle bracket. I've done it to most of the Beetles I've owned.

Adjustment is included in the Mini buckets and so you need to remove the long VW adjusting screws and to replace them with long self tapping screws to get the VW headlight surround to fit.

You then need to fit a couple of small parking lamps.
