Anybody replaced the hard brake line?
Stanley - April 22nd, 2008 at 12:49 PM

Anybody replaced the hard brake line from the master cyl to the T-piece at the rear ('60 model). Mine has worn through at the pedal cluster. Couldn't get it out in one piece so i'm wondering whether it will go back in one piece.
Also it's 5mm tube and the only tube I can get is 3/16 (4.76mm). Will this work ok with the standard ends and i've also heard volksy double flares are different to the norm.

thanks

3/16 should be fine.
Not sure on the terminology, but Volksys have a male double flare rather than a female style double flare.

You can get it in in one piece, but mat have to bend the ends after you are through the holes
in the front and rear bulk heads. (feed in from the rear............................................ouch!)

yeah, relatively easy, go as as Dave has planned out.

a couple options, ring vintage vee dub and order the line with ends attached ready to go........it will be the correct length and size, from memory around $70. you could also get the correct grommets for where the tube goes thru the body. the VVDS stuff is quality that won't kink when bending, even when doing it by hand as i did. TAKE IT SLOWLY

i have also had the tubes made up at my local exhaust/brake center..........just take in your "ferrels" and old line and they can set up the flared ends on a matching length and diameter of tube.

make sure (i know you will) you get the grommets for where the tube goes thru the chassis, or elsse you can look forward to doing it all over again rather soon:grind:

............don't forget to get some extra lines made up to plumb in that line locker since you'll be bleeding the whole system anyways:tu:

...........and we love pictures of new race cars coming together too, i didn't see your name on the dyno list yet!

Thanks guys,

That will be this weekends job, amongst others.
I doubt it would be ready for dyno day....plus I don't want to wear it out before Warwick....:spin:
