having rebuilt my t4 in the bus i am not satisfied with the performance it has new everything inc heads, port work, cam etc.what is the max stroke i can go to and not run into difficulty with cam clearance and engine width.will a 78 mm fit ok or is it a bit radical as i dont want to modify the tinware too much. thanks guys.
You say you rebuilt your engine (2ltr?)with portwork and cam, what carbs are you running, what heads?
Have a look through the posts on the type 4 forum on shoptalkforums.com, this has been discussed many times, with much controversy!
The crank to cam clearance does cause the most headaches with extra stroke. I think 78mm is quite achiveable, however much more requires considerable
machine and clearancing work. Best to check out the above mentioned forum for people who know more than me!
If you do stroke it, be prepared for some big bucks! Maybe consider a big bore kit for extra performance if you decide not to stroke it, Conti engines
(based at Bribie Island here just north of Brissy) sells 103mm p&c kits (not cheap though!).
yeah i read the type4rum on shoptalk forums, 78.4mm is the maximum easy stroker, any longer and clearancing becomes difficult, like the cam gets in
the way A tried and tested combo is the 2270 (78.4 X 96mm P & C)
