I have a 61 Beetle and am curious if the round pipe that enteres the heater channel rear section (under back seat) continues through to the front or does this pipe open up just inside the main heater channel and use the larger outer section (what you actuall see and the lower door seal rests on) for the air to flow through to the front. Does anyone have a cross section photo that may help.

Kevin, not 100% sure but I think on the beetle it is a full open cavity, but the following link to this site should give you all the pics and info you need.

i know on the later beetles they have an inner pipe ,but havent seen anything on my earlier one,easy way to tell is by poking a coathanger size bit of wire through where the running boards bolt on

the heater pipe just sticks inside does not go all the away to front

late models definately do i found out when i cut up my 71 superbug
heres a cross section of a heaterchannel from a 71 superbug

easiet way to find out for an early model would be have a look in the readers rides thread on VZi
pretty much every project there u can see straight thro both heater channels b4 they start

Thanks everyone for your thoughts and the photo. Just wanting to know as my heater channel has a couple of very small rust holes near where the carpet lip is and wondering what the inside might be like. Will do some more research on VZi.

not all the way thru on earlies

As far as I have discovered from the cars i have played with, Aussie-MADE cars deleted the inner pipe. All 1968 and later cars (plus the early pre-61 assembled-from-kit Aussie cars) had the pipe-within-a-pipe
