Hey everyone,
I'm trying to remove my dizzy so i can get a crank trigger installed in it. But i can't get the bloody thing out!!!!!
I've got it at TDC and i've undone everything and dismanted it to the point were i can see the weights and have removed the spring but it still
won't come out!!!!!!
I also can't get the old fuel pump blockoff plate out so i can't tell if the old pump drive gear thingy is still there!!!!
I need it out asap as it is slowing down my EFI conversion the guys are waiting on it!!!
HEEEEEEEELLLLLPP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Marty
have you undo the clamp on the under side of the dissy
vw54, i have undone everything that i can get to. Clamp etc etc. I can't think of anything else that could be stopping it!!!!
(unfortunately my mate has my copy of Muir and other references for me to look at!!!)
Marty
can you twist the dissy body if so then it can be pulled up n out
very difficult to rotate and always has been since i've had the engine!!!!
this is very scientific but you will need a mate put a screwdriver or bar under the dizzy and while ya mate winds it over apply a bit of leverage tyo
the dizzy it works for me but i havent had a stuck one for a long while
you have undone the nut holding the cvlamp to the block
If it has always been dificult to turn when doing the timing, it is 'just' tight in the case, and should come out with a twist and pull motion, AS LONG AS THE CLAMP RETAINING NUT IS REMOVED.
I did undo the clamp retaining nut. Hmmm so you think it is just a tight fit.
Shit i have used some force on this thnik, thought i was going to lift the whole rear of the buggy off the ground!!!!!!
NORMALLY, what is the minimum things you need to undo??? Just the clamp and the clamp retaining nut????? Did i really need to take everything off it
and out of it??????
NIGHTMARES!!!

Maybe give the distributor base to engine block a dose of penetrene or similar product. As stated above - it should just pull out with a bit of a rotation.
hahaha i like it Sir Matberry!!! And no they weren't sweetdreams hahahaha
Will try the penetrene spray and give it a good reaffffffffff!!!!
Keep the ideas coming guys just in case it is a stubborn one!!!
it should move easy spray away
or take the car to someone who knows whta there doing
Got it out!!!!
Spray helped a little bit i think. The way i have my oil pump hoses set up there wasn't much room to get a hand (or anything) in there. Ended up
being a good thing i dismantled everything as i stuck a screwdriver in the whole where the wires to the coil exit (point's replacement) and wedged it
agains the screw hole that holds the plate in and the cap clips on. This gave me a handle to turn the dissy anti-clockwise about 1/4 turn with lift
then turned it backwards by hand. Then what felt like 15000 turns it started to lift a bit then once the 'o' ring was out it was all fun and
games!!!!
Was just very very shitty around the dissy hole and was causing it to jam alot!!!!
Anyway, that might help someone else with a REALLY stuck dissy in the future!!!!
Thanks for the suggestions guys, much appreciated!!!! EFI here we come!!!
Marty
OK i will bite what sort of EFI are you going to do and r u fitting it yr self
G'day Marty,
I had a volvo once that was sooo bloody hard to get the dizzy out. it was like it had never ever been moved in 27 years!
Hey I'm also doing an EFI conversion...just wondering what you're going to use for crank triggering? What type of engine/vehicle is it going on?
Glad you got it out!
T
2.2L type 1 manx buggy with CB performance heads.
Going injection perfection throttle bodies, multi pack coil and triggering off the dizzy rather than a cogwheel off the back of the crack pulley.
Microtech ECU.
Plus all the other little bits and pieces that need to be modified like fuel tank, fuel pump, lines, regulator etc etc etc.
Now i just need decent brakes!!!!! hahahahah
so are you putting it altogether yourself ??? or getting someone to do it
which microtek are you using
