Does anybody know anything about the VOLKSWAGEN 1600cc 126A INDUSTRIAL ENGINE?

Are they suitable to convert for use in a car, if so what is involved.

I have a couple. One of them is in my splitty. You need to basically replace the fan tin (if you want heating), put a 12v generator and stand on, put heat exchangers on, some of the lower tin has to be changed to suit the heat exchangers, and replace the carb with a PICT 30, and replace the magneto with a dizzy. You don't need to open up the longblock, but you need to remove the flywheel thats on there and put on a new flywheel with a starter ring on it. I think the bottom case studs need changing for bigger/longer ones as well. Depending on what car your putting it in, you may need to change the exhaust to a dual tip.

Not all that hard, and makes a great all german 1600SP motor. Mine had 8 hours on, and I've driven my splitty up and down the coast with that engine, and its never missed a beat.

Cheers

Steve

Thanks Steve, exactly what I needed to know.

Did you see that one on eBay? I was looking at that too. There was also an ex-aviation motor. Not so appealing though because some of the engine case metal had been cut away where it would normally mate to the bellhousing.
