just screw a belt to the inside pannel and use it

Ohmygod! So THAT'S what that hole in the rear is for! I had no idea, I've been using it as a toolbox! So you really do learn something new every day!

If you mount your spare wheel on a front bullbar, what do you do with the hole in the back?

Turn it into an icebox for the freshly caught fish.
Fabricate a panel to cover it giving a fully flat rear.
Keep a second spare for long outback trips

Just curious

It makes a good secret storage compartment. Campmobiles came with a thin masonite cover over the spare wheel well, and the rear luggage cushion goes over that. You wouldn't know the well was there.

Microbuses had a really neat black plastic cover that fitted over the spare tyre, with a nice VW emblem moulded into it. See if you can find one at a wreckers.
