Question 1 - do you need to have it connected to the steering wheel push, or can you use a dash button?
2 - Is it hard to wire up the original steering push horn? I have one single wire traveling through the steering column.
3 - Was is the common earthing issues with these?
Hi Mick
I don't think the horn button has to be in the steering wheel
My horn doesn't work very often using the large pad on the late model plastic steering wheels..
[air horns]
I also have a button under the dash for the VW horn
the horn is connected thru a fuse to the ignition system
and has power there All the time the key is turned on..
the earth wire goes up to the steering wheel and there should be a connection of some kind for the wire...
on the side of the steering column just below the bracket
should be a carbon button that touches the steering shaft and earths it out so the horn will work when the steering wheel is turned...
later models have the steering shaft earthed near the steering box...

sounds like a push button may be easier
i have an after market boss kit, does that earth through the boss adapter itself then??? That would work right?
It should go thru the boss kit
but depends on the kit I think
I had one on My car at one time with the horn working
but I have seen a lot that won't work...
If You use a relay to switch all the power thru,
You can use the very small push buttons for sale as Dick Smiths... very cheap...
otherwise a good Hella/Narva push button is pretty pricey..
cheers

push buttons on the dash are fine legal wise anyway
the reason alot of sports steeringwheels bosses dont have working horn buttons is cos they dont have the contact ring for the horn fitted
u need to unscrew it from the original steering wheel and fit it to the boss
most ppl dont bother
my momo one does but ive got luisi and formuling ones here that dont
