1968 T1 Auto stick shift for the complete idiot?
eraser - June 16th, 2008 at 11:25 PM

Howdy all, finally parts are mounting up to get the good old 68 semi-auto back on the road again, i grabbed the book "how to keep your Volkswagen alive for complete idiots", i also have my trusty Haynes manual. Now i was hoping that the idiots guide would of included a dummies guide to altering or diagnosing the semi auto, or at least a idiots guide to the inner workings.(instead the index says Semi-automatic not covered anywhere in the book :P)

I of course know the theory behind how it works but as for the actual parts and what they look like, how much i can adjust, I'm lost.'

Anyone seen a guide like that before for the semi-auto stick shift? I know their used to be a forum somewhere dedicated to us semi-auto lovers :P

Just would be nice to have an insert for the complete idiot guide to make it COMPLETE ;)

I got a copy of the following: Scientific Publications Workshop Manual Series no. 46.

inc. 1100cc to 1500cc inc. stickshift.

And has resolved all my issues when i had the stick shift.
Even includes full chapter that discusses complete tear down of the semi auto gear box. As well as wiring diagrams, tear down of the control valve etc, the whole lot.

Includes full adjustment and tuning specs, how to do it, sizes scales, the whole lot for semi auto. EVERYTHING, including adjusting the contact distance in your gear shift. ITS GOLD when it comes to info for stick shift.

Take a look for that one buddy. U find yourself that book, and u will be all set.
Was pretty old skool though, published in NSW in 1970.

Oh, and by the way, i had absolute trouble with the idiots guide when it came to semi auto. Next to useless.

And haynes, if they are anything like the celica publications, even if you had the exact model of car they are discussing, its not even worthy of being used for dunny paper.

(If its anything like the toyota celica haynes manual)

Blue Robert bentley book - VW of America is also good.
