Clunking
Bogart01 - September 2nd, 2008 at 08:58 AM

I have a 1973 Super Bug and have started getting the occassional 'clunk' noise coming from underneath - sounds like a rock flicking up and hitting the underneath. Only happens now and again.

I recently had the front brake pads changed and they also give the occasional squeal - Could the two be related?

Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.

Does it just do it randomly or when accelerating, turning, stopping etc?

Thanks, does it randomly but will have to start taking more note exactly when - it's definitely not specific to turning or accelerating.

thats very common with strut front ends that need a freshen up
u'll notice its when u hit a bump

itll most likely be either worn ball joints, swaybar or control arm bushings or possibly upper strut bearings

are u getting the token 50mph superbeetle wobble/shimmy??
