difference in type 1 and type 3 engines?
Starbug - June 5th, 2003 at 12:20 AM

Ive been told that ive got a type 3 engine in my beetle, T0478475.

im just wondering if there is much difference between the two repairs-wise, as all the repairs ive done have been done the same way as the haynes beetle manual with no problems whatsoever.

if there is a difference, any particular nasties i should look out for and so on?
are VW engines and bits that interchangeable and backwards compatible? if so, perhaps some computer hardware companies should take a leaf out of the VW book...!!:thumb

No, if your case has been drilled to take the type 1 dipstick, your case is essentially the same as a "universal" case. All the parts will fit the same.

I take it you have a Beetle with a Type 3 engine thats been converted into an upright engine to fit yr Beetle.

Yes if so then all the internal are the same and inter changeable.

As Autostik said the main difference is the rear engine support mount points.
