Howdy all, I thought i would get some advice on this issue, got a singleport 1500 motor in the beetle and it starts every time, but at the moment i turn it on its fine but it sounds clicky... And when i rev it the car tends to wobble and sounds like a rev limiter has been hit... So now is it tappets?? or is it main end? I suppose a slightly bent pulley couldn't do this.

big ends will give a dull thud type of noise

hmm maybe i shall record the noise and show you what it does.... or maybe i should just look at the valves :P

It hasn't by any chance dropped a valve, this will give you a clicky noise and miss /wobble and shortly afterwards it gets exciting as the valve either goes through the piston and then continues its adventure to places unknown. It may also be some thing as simple as a stuck valve .Big ends usually are fairly clacky because the piston will hit the head. Whatever the case it needs attention rapidly.
