Hey all,
Does anyone know of any business that stocks CB heads here in Australia, preferablly close to QLD.
I have a 72 bus with 1600 i'm looking to enchance performance wise. I reckon decent flowing heads would be a fair place to start to make a
significant difference without having to add on too many other parts for it to work well.
Feel free to add any opinions too
cheers
Josh
I have been told that you can't get too much of a gain with aftermarket heads if your still using the standard cam. I may be wrong though.
it's a fair point. i would more than likely be shopping around for an engle 110 soon after, if not before I put on the heads.
Available from Vintage in Sydney 02-9789-1777
But you would be better of updating exhaust, electronic ignition and carbies before trying big heads on a 1600 stock engine
upgrade the capacity if you want to get bigger heads money better spent
sweet thankyou for that.
do you think all of those things combined would produce half as much as a decent set of heads with a bigger cam? see where i'm coming from haha. my
money is limited so im looking for best bang for buck you know?
my other option is just that. whas it the largest capacity you can safely upgrade a stock 1600 up to and which way would be the best?
If you machine the case for 94mm pistons and cylinders capacity will jump to 1916. People have made 130hp+ from these
true that, any idea of how much maching would cost and is that safe, i mean things would be getting pretty thin for 94mm capacity right?
I think around $200 for machining and I think 94mm cylinders have the same wall thickness as standard 85.5 so should be fine, just keep away from the slip in 87mm and 88mm and the 92mm kits. 90.5mm for 1776 are fine though if you dont wan't to go to 1916.
wow thats better than i thought, but i suppose it does vary on who does it hey.. this sounds like a pretty good option. Thanks alot for that mate.
sorry to be a pain
cheers
Josh
No problem thats what these forums are for. If you think that your
asking stupid questions don't read some of my earlier questions
haha very true. hahaha. nah, I don't think any question is really that stupid as long as you can learn from the answer.... how philosiophical of me haha
Its going to be moreexpensive than that dont 4 get bearings gaskets and seals and then a new barrel n piston kit its plus plus plus
balancing and porting n polishing etc etc etc
Start off with the basics and get good quality items so they can be used later if you increase the capacity
Are you pull the engine and stripping and assembling it your self ???
Thats true, i still thought the machining its self would be more exxey. Barrel and piston kit is say around 500 mark? would i really need to port and
polish?
would be pulling and stripping myself, dunno about assembly might leave that to the experts.
So you aint got much funds so do the first options and save for later where you located at
first options. dual 40 idf webers = 1000 minimum, exhaust = 300 bucks and am already soon buying an svda with pertronix in the 300 dollar range. so
all up 1600 dollars minimum for just the basics for how much horsepower? haha. tricky situation
im in mount gravatt east in brissy in queensland
So get a decent hide away quite pack exhaust
Whats a """ svda with pertronix """
single vaccuum dual advance (distributor i forgot to add sorry). Mick motors is apparently going to have one in soon made by pertronix with their
electronic ignition already installed.
i've been looking at getting a merged header with a phat boy muffler. I don't like the stock sound to much.
no connection with me but theres a 2L kombi engine on tradingpost for 900 currently... mite be a better base than the 1600?
thanks for that mate. im sure it would be, but 1600 is easier for me to work with atm.
thanks
josh
Go to the samba and shoptalkforums and read read read before you open your wallet.
haha trust me mate, done that
There's an 1835 on here which is turn key.. Maybe double your budget but someone else has taken all the pain.. I'm no expert at limited upgrades but I suggest you get twin Kadrons (cheap) I think Rod Penrose sells second hand kits and then get your exhaust upgraded.. After that look at your coil etc.. After all that, if you want more.. look for a decent engine builder (there are a few around here) that will give you a tough engine (plus use your existing upgraded parts) for 4-6k
hmm yeah, im thinking perhaps i just save up hardcore, let someone else do all the hard work. thanks for that
fit Kadrons, 009 and exhaust. When/if your engine goes pop, u can use these on a $3000 hottie/cammed rebuilt 1600... or whatever
