Beetle Sun Visors
Oppressa - June 11th, 2003 at 11:30 AM

Little help needed. Not very techy but I still need help. Does anyone have a mechanical diagram of how a 71 Beetle's sunvisors swivel?

I can get both of mine to turn outwards as if the sun was on the side of my car but I can't get either of them to fold. The driver's is stuck in the down position and the passenger's is stuck in the up (unused) position. I unscrewed them and took them out and on the end of each is an angled tube and on the tube is a spring held in place by a washer and pin. But obviously I can't see inside the roof cavity so I don't know how they are meant to swing down. Help?

I think you will find that the philips screw on the viser clamps it on to the shaft. If you losen the screw and move them a few times they may losen up(probably grown on to the shaft through lack of use ?) Once they are free you can re tension them so they don't drop down when driving. If the visers have been recovered the screw may be hidden.I hope I have understood your problem and have helped.

Yep as per above loosen the screw and they should turn. It may require a bit of spray lubrication to get them free and mooving.

Yeah, thanks guys. I was thinking that the fold down movement was governed by the connection between the sunvisor and the part that clamps it to the roof. I didn't even notice the screw on the sun visor itself!

After removing the screw and using a lot of WD-40 and some turning, they're working great now, thanks!
