do I need to use valve lube in my 65 1200 beetle?

I assume I do, but just wanted to check.

No you do not need it....... save your money.... or spend it on the higher octane petrol

no vw valves are fine to run on unleaded

sorry fellas but I have seen a lot of valve guides worn away and valves eaten to the stage of dropping heads consequently destroying pistons,crankcases etc over the years. Back in the dark ages we used to use Redex,firezone or a good upper cylinder lube to prolong engine life because standard petrol had very little lead. The new valves and heads are probably OK. but if the motor is original it will need all the help it can get. Cheers les
