I have an adapter where the original oil cooler went on My 1500 beetle engine.. [non doghouse now]
I have a doghouse oil cooler near the RHS tappet cover.
I do have a flat oil cooler to install at some time...
not sure where to put it...
but I also have an oil thermostat and a remote spin on oil filter I wanted to use....
is it OK to use all these things with the oil cooler adaptor i'm using on the original 1500 engine.. [now 1600]
I'm not sure how the oil flow will be...??
as most people don't use the oil cooler adaptor to tap into the oil flow....
cheers
LEE
PS: See.. I don't know everything..lol
If you add a filter at the oil cooler take off point
it will not be full flow.
But at least it will filter some of the oil.
Your engine should not need an external cooler.
I would keep the stock cooler in the stock location,
and fit a Franz style deal, since your semi-auto pump would be a nightmare to mod for ful flow.

Hi Lee
Maybe I'm not reading your post correctly, but why not convert your car over to a doghouse cooler?
Steve
Hi steve,
My engine has been a doghouse oil cooler with the wider fan and shroud etc... but last time i had the engine out I changed it back to the original fan
shroud etc...
I had a large oil cooler sitting over the engine with the top of the engine lid open at the top...
when I went to close the lid at the top...
the external oil cooler wouldn't fit...
so I placed the doghouse oil cooler down near the RHS tappet cover... I believe a flat 12x6 inch approx flat oil cooler would cool better outside the
engine bay...
plus I would like to add a spin on oil filter...
