Beetle gearbox weight

Anyone know how much a swing axle gearbox weighs? It's out of a '69 1500.

A rough estimate is as good as any, I'm sorting out freighting one

Thanks
Jeremy

I would say about 50 kilos without the axles, as i can lift them easy, i just did bringing one to work to clean and de grease.

If you can remove the axles it would be easier to ship and handle.

well a 3 rib IRS kombi box is 38kg (I weighed it).

And IRS beetle would be lighter, but a swingaxle beetle would be heavier than the IRS beetle.

So my guess for a swingaxle is 40kg. 50kg absolute max.

Thanks guys, brilliant

Yep I was definately thinking of removing the axles. Havn't done it before, but it can be too hard :) ...theres those famous last words again

Cheers

The hard part is removing the bearing from the axle ends, and getting the circlip out which retains the axle into the diff.

50kgs was a guess tam ate.
