The engine number in my beetle reads - AP067125
From the reading that I have been doing this indicates it may be out of a 1974 Type II 1800cc. Book says they start at AP 0 027 466. Fuel
injection
Am I reading it correct or I have I got it all wrong.
I do not have fuel injection.
Can one of you gurus shed some light please?
is it definately AP?
its not AB or AR?
or a new block that has no engine number on so ppl stamp whatever they like on them
AP were 1800 kombi engine which take alot of work to fit in a bug and would be twin carb too

It definitely has stamped AP. I had to look a number of times to confirm and even had the kids with GOOD eyes confirm the P.
I can't get a pic online as I need my work laptop with the card reader but it sounds like I had the correct info.
I doesn't have twin carbs and recently when I had it out for new caskets it looked just like every other beetle engine laying around my brothers
house.
The car was modified in 1994 in Queensland but there is no mention of the engine being chnaged.
The rego papers state it is a 1600 and the numbers look like orignal stamps. I suppose someone might have 'made' it up and whacked on their own
numbers.
Will attempt to get a pic on tomorrow but like I said it looks like a normal beetle banger. (yeah like I would know )
Photos posted. I had a look at a kombi engine my brother has in his beach buggy and it looks nothing like mine. Maybe it is just a number whacked on it....
The engine in my buggy is AP and it's from a kombi 1800 twin carb.
thats definitely not a 1800 kombi motor. looks like a t1 1600
id say someone has re-stamped it
u need to do something about your coil asap cos thats gonna leave you stranded and walking
someone has fitted the wrong coil
thats a GT40R u need a GT40
the R style run thro those white ceramic resistors in old holdens and 70s jap cars
theyre only meant to run on 9volts so when u run 12 thro them they burn out
ive seen it happen to many times, ppl grab the wrong one from the shelf not seeing the R
u can also see theres a message on the side: this coil for use with resistor
also u need to fit the hose for the case breather between the oil filler and the air cleaner thats missing
thats why your eninge is covered with oil on the RHS
The oil on the right was a mere spill. Didn't get the damn bottle end in quick enough. If it wasn't for that there would have been none there. Have
a filter just getting the pipe from the breather to fit. Everything in time.
Thanks for the info on the coil, probably ready for a walk as it has been going good. Will get to that asap. Too hot for silly stoppages.
