Harmonic Balancers

Hi Guys,
Reading page 82 on how to hot rod VW engines, they talk about harmonic balancers. Its an idea that never seemed to have caught on. Any thoughts on
why?

these arent shitty astron engines , having the bottom end well balanced doesnt call for one

Cool.
It does raise the question if things like the Berg equalizer are maretking on drugs?

those being the operative words
they were good when new but 50,000kms down the road they rattled and smoked more than a bush fire
whenever i follow a sigma/magna/colt aside from being choked by 2 stroke fumes u can never see one taillight cos its buried under carbon

I guess you guess are talking about the counter balance shaft in the Astron motor. I had a sigma turbo back in 1995 and when I rebuilt the engine I
remember fitting something to eliminate the balance shaft. I think the balance shaft was something they fitted to fix the stuff up or just a really
bad idea.

lol.. that's why Porsche paid Mistubishi licencing fees for the balance shaft technology, eh?!
