86 caravelle info
satori - February 10th, 2009 at 05:58 PM

Hey guys.

Just bought a 86 caravelle and am wanting to put some nice wheels on it. I was told Audi a4 rims fit. But what about tyre and rim size. How wide can you go on tyres. will 225 on 7.5 inch rims fit. Also will 17inch mags with 45s tyres fit. The wheels I was looking at were +45 off set 17inch with 225's.

The car is lowered already but I think the springs were just cut, so is very bouncy. Any info on whats the best way to go about keeping it low but improving the ride. I was checking out lowered springs in the states but only had 2 inch lower. I was thinking maybe 3 inch. Does anyone know where to get these from.

thanks

I believe with a 7 inch wide rim an offset of 38mm is as much as you can get away with before it starts to foul on the front suspension. On the rear you have to be carefull not to go with to little of an offset or to wide as the tyre will start to foul on the sliding door when it opens.

The bouncing suspension might be shock absorber related on the front. The front bumstop is part of the front shock & I believe normally reguires trimming so that you are not constantly riding on it. Shock absorber length could also be another consideration.

Cheers
