VW Beetle 1971 1600cc
I am really lost on this. I have removed the two bolts holding regulator to window the bolts at bottom and the bolts near winder handle. In fact there
are no more bolts inside door to remove? But the winder mechanism will not come out and there seems to be an obstruction between the inner and outer
skin in line with side window and where inside door handle would be. Do I have to remove side window as well?
David
have you taken the bolts out of the window? as it is easier to get the mech out without the window in the way, well i found it was the other day
I have actually taken the window out totally. There is only the little side window still in. There just seems to be an obstruction in line with little
window and where door handle was. between the two skins. I have removed the winder mechanism on my kombi to replace and that came out fairly easy, and
there is def no bolts on door.
David
the smokers window frame pins the regulator in near the winder handle
usually u can remove the bolt the screws into the window frame and get enought movement to slide it past
its just above the door handle
Thats the bit I am having probs with Joel for Sure. So u reckon I can squeeze it past then if force a bit more and dont need to remove smokers window. YIPEE. Will get back to it after work tomorrow. Damn am gonna have to go through that to put new one in as well!
yep does the trick for me each time
can take a bit of juggling to get back in but its easier than pulling the smokers window out
I cannot believe how hard that was!. The problem was that the inside fitting with the thread to hold inside door handle was needed to be pushed away from doors inner skin to allow mechanism to drop down. I pushed this forward with a screwdriver and the winder then wedged in between it so knew was right. But pulling it all the way down was really tight through that gap and bent the mechanism badly. Jeez, am not looking forward to getting the new one back up through that gap!. I am actually wondering whether it needs to be inside there anyway? It seems it would fit on outside far easier. May just try that first as will be quick and then check it does not obstruct window operation or anything else. Gotta get part first anyway. This shopping list is growing
nah gotta go back how it was otherwise the window cant wind down
cos it would be crossing from one side of the bailey channel to the other so the glass would hit it
Really did not want to hear that! But did think was the case. Anyway cant do today as I could not get new one From Classic Vee dub (none in stock)
So today will be pulling battery out of Kombi to use in Bug and then set about the engine. Will (hopefully) be the first time it has fired up in over
two years of sitting. Dont forget meet at Blacktown drive-in Tonight all !! Look 4ward to meeting some of you
Spent best part of day putting a new mechanism in. That was painfull and it makes an awful noise when I wind it up (not down) Should i put some grease
on the inside.
ps Never got back to indicators due to this blasted thing so will reply to that thread after I have worked on it tomorrow
Any suggestions re greasing the inside of mechanism? A friend suggested silicone which I would neeed to buy as only have grease
It does sound awfull when winding window up
you may be able to lubricate it with one of those flexible extensions that fit WD40 cans
you probably noticed when it was out theres a slit all the way along the tube that u can see the worm drive in
they love a good drink thro that but bit hard to do when installed, but im sure you dont feel like ripping it out again either
Have just used a bit of rubber hose to feed it. Ended up using the silicone stufff and is better.
