Steering Coloum Switches.
clinker42 - March 22nd, 2009 at 06:12 PM

Hi Guys

The switch on the Steering coloum, It has two arms, one on each side. Obviously the right hand switch is the indicators. Does that Indicator switch do anything else, also what is the left hand side switch.

Also, does a 2 litre motor fit straight into a 1300, if it does, what do you think I would be paying for a 2 litre in good condition. Reason is I have to pull this engine, rings bearings, pistons etc etc.

Thanks Trevor

The indicator stalk should also flash your main beams when pulled towards you and turn them on when pushed away. Depends on what year it is?
The other side should be your windscreen wipers. Again depends on what year.

As for the engine. It is possible but not straight forward. The flywheel won't fit your gearbox and you will have to modify the tinware amongst other things that I cannot remember at present. I presume you are meaning a 2 litre CU engine?

by 2L engine im guessing you mean kombi and it does fit but needs all new custom cooling system

obviously this is your first european cars?

ur arse about face with the switches, all euro cars have indiators on the left side

right hand side is wiper switch
down is off, up once for low, up twice for high and if there still connected pull towards you for wash

they should actually be labelled but it wears off with use as u can see on my wiper switch

Thanks Guys

Joel, the switch with the white electrical connectors is the one thats sitting on the floor, it also has two rubber lines, I presume thats something for the windscreen washers. Is there a switch that does all that but will run a windscreen washer with the little 12 volt motor. It is a 1973.

Ok, the motor side of it, between the 1300 and upwards, do they all have a different stroke crank and different bores, what do you guys normally do to add some extra cubes, maybe crank and piston change, etc.

Thanks Trev

You can swap a type 1 engine and out. 1600 is the largest stock production beetle engine. You can buy these as a brand new long block, or search around for a complete running swap. :D
