beetle baja air filter
dpradford - March 23rd, 2009 at 08:10 PM

Hi All,
I picked up my baja last week and I'm having a ball, however, I pulled the engine cover off today and there is no air filter at all. This is my first vw so I'm not sure what is supposed to be there, or where to get a replacement. Basically there is a rectangular base plate with 2 large holes for the two throats of the carby and some small ones presumably to bolt the missing bits to. I realise I should have tried to find something to identify the carby, or taken some pics but it got dark, I will get pics and post them if no-one can help me with the info I've given.
Any help is much appreciated, Thanks.
Dan

try your local auto parts store for a new air filter set up,just get the name off the carby ,and maybe some part no.s so as to get the right sizing :tu:

There are about four different options, from the most common, Weber DCN or DCNF, Weber IDF, Weber DGAV(?)progressive, Dellorto DRLA, Zenith NDIX. Most of these, all except the Zenith, take one of two different types of air filter, both of which should be available from Rod Penrose, he's a vee dub guy and an agent for Unifilter. Best look on the carb and advise how tall an element will fit in the space you have, go for as big as you can, they should be available in 2", 3" 4"..up to maybe 6", then if you go in the dirt or beach alot, you should go for a gauze element and an oiled foam outer band, even an outerwear over this is the ultimate setup.
