Painless Wiring
sjmorris007 - June 17th, 2003 at 12:29 PM

Hi there,

I have a 67 Splitbus which I'm rebuilding. This is my first rebuild ever, so it's a bit daunting.

I'm considering rewiring the entire bus because my connections are terribly shoddy all over teh place and my thinking is a complete rewire will add considerable safety and value to the car overall.

That said, the best wiring I've come across is a Painless Universal wiring kit in the States.

Has anyone run these through a VW kombi? Are they compatible?

Thanks in advance!

You might find some wires are not long enough with the US harness - they have the steering wheel on the "wrong" side so that moves some of the wires.

I haven't put them side by side so I don't know for sure, but I'd be wary.

If I remember right the 67 Aussie bus was still 6v and the US buses were 12v so there would be some differences there too - the 12v harnesses have thinner wires because they carry less amps.

I have used 2 of them now , but in beetles both times.. and they rock ... i recon they are the best thing when wanting to rewire a VW.. everything is done for you... i also have a third kit in the box waiting to go into my 72 vw ute project ... so yeah ... i recon they are great !
