dizzi drive shaft position
Thinker - April 2nd, 2009 at 09:01 AM

hi All
Please help
i am new at Beetles and got one only a month ago.
i have just replaced the dizzy and when puting the new one in i noticed that at TDC the groove in drive shaft was not square to crank may 20 - 30 deg out. i was able to set timing but dizzi sits out of position.
1. is this a problem or will it cause problems later on.
2.is the drive shaft easy to remove (how to) or does the motor have to be striped.

Thanks

Hi mate
If you can time the engine correctly it's not really a problem, the drive has probably been installed one tooth out or so. You can refit the drive by pulling the dizzy, fuel pump and fuel pump stand (which can be difficult or even break inside the engine block). Also when pulling the drive out make sure you dont drop the two base shims. Someone here is sure to have the appropriate pics.
