Turbo gurus, advice on heads, cam and headers please

Hi All

I'm planning a turbo 2332 motor for my 1500 and am a bit overwhelmed by the choices available when it comes to heads, cams and headers. Hopefully some of you out there can givie me a bit of giuidance

The car - Street registered, some hillclimb and drag use (not that there's a lot of options around Canberra for now). Performance-wise, I'm looking for something that will run mid to low 12's on the 1/4 mile. It's all about fun, I'm not chasing trophies or anything liked that (they move to fast for me anyway ).

The engine - 2332, forged pistons/cranks etc. microtec controlled efi through a PWR air/water intercooler and ida downdraft manifolds, turbo will most likely be around T03 size. Looking at about 8:1 static compression and hope to use high octane pump fuel.

Question 1 Heads and Cam - I 'd like to keep engine revs sane (around 6 - 6.5k) so I'm not rattling the rockers off it. That being the case can I be a little conservative with the heads and cam and go for mid-range designs and use the turbo to make up the majority of the grunt? Does anyone have any suggestions? (Keep in mind I have a mortgage ).

Question 2 Headers - There seem to be two popular options when it comes to off the shelf headers, 1 and 3/8's or 5/8's. Would the smaller diameter help keep lag down or will I need the bigger flow numbers?

Cheers Guys

Brett :)

Hmm OK, I'll try make this a bit easier :)

Would Comp Eliminator be overkill on a turbo streeter? Better flow should = less boost required and less heat as a result yes?

Feel free to move this post if it's in the wrong spot mods.

Have a read of type three king's build of his 2332cc type 1 turbo efi set up.

With the cam he is running using Volksy heads ported, welded and bombed to the hilt running 15psi on pump fuel it made 246hp with the clutch letting go. turbo is high flow T3/4 with biggest wheels you can fit and a few other tricks.

Cheers Brennden, you guys have sure had your hands full with that build!

Seems Comp Eliminators would be a bit on over the top given what Troy's getting from worked vw heads. i might redirect my searches around the 044s, they're available with similar sized valves and would likely be much more streetable than CEs
