i would like to know if there is anything wrong with doing this to my king link pin beetle. theres a guy i contacted who bends them for the formula
vee guys here in W.A. so im assuming this will be okay. he told me he bends them for 2.5 degrees negative. and everything will fit back to normal .
i have just started doing autokhanas and would like to dial in some camber at the front.when i was pushing it hard around corners afew of the other
drivers said it looked like the wheels where getting so much positive on the fronts and it will handle that much better if i could get some camber on
them...

the linkpins will bind

the link pins will be untouched by any mods or silly shimming. i thought if the arms where bent all it would do is make the spindles and brakes sit at a different angle, ie:top in and bottom out. therefor negative camber.
Sounds OK to Me...
balljoint front ends can be adjusted
but i did think it would have been just as easy to bend the trailing arms...
but You would really need a jig to do it...

the guy who i spoke to uses a jig and told he me might have some already bent and i could just exchange my trailing arms for them, yipee...
I would have thought the link pin shim surface would no longer be true to the new angle of the arm and therefore wear might be an issue. If your wheels are going positive, it would be due to trailing arms and bushes in beam worn excessively and/or king pin wear, I'd fix that properly first.
so obviously no ones done this before.it must be working for the formula vee guys though. ill have another chat to the guy who does them.
i have had the king pins replaced but not the link pins. ill get a another beam, with new link pins and bushes aswell as the bent arms ,then all
should be good,maybe.
can anyone else think of any other problems that may pop up.
I doubt this will work with the K&L front end, otherwise I reckon it would be possile just to shim it to achieve the desired camber. A lot of vees
now run ball joint fronts, which can be bent because the ball joint can align itself, whereas I believe the k&l will bind up.
Youd probably be better off putting in a couple of sets of caster shims between your beam & the frame head. This will allow the outside wheel to
achieve slightly more neg camber when the wheels are turned going through a corner.
I think they call it "active camber".

cheers brendan, ill keep on doing some research before i go make some dumb decision. i have read that when you install two sets of caster shims you have to flip or turn "cant quite remember" the steering box as it hits the bottom of the fuel tank or something. i read it on one of ct's old threads somewhere.
Yeah you'll have to turn the steering box slightly to maintain alignment with the steering shaft, & maybe to avoid it hitting the fuel tank. to
do this you have to grind or file a slightly larger notch in the steering box clamp where it locates on the beam. You'll see what i mean when you
have a proper look.

oh yeah i get you, turn the box on the beam where its attatched.
here i go, the ends of the arms are more so twisted then bent to gain aquired camber change. the pins are no longer parellel to the road or square to the chasiss "never were". they are now 'x' number of degrees on axis. the shimming offset/orrientation remains the same as factory specs. this is how i had it explained to me.
If both arms are 'twisted' correctly, sounds like it would work.
