Generator Problem
milestones54 - May 1st, 2009 at 10:51 AM

Hi guys
In an attempt to find out why my brake lights have stopped working, i found that two wires were not connected to my voltage reg. Im not sure the wires do, but now the car started straight away after i had connected them
But now my "g" light comes on with ignition (which it didnt before), dims when driving and lights up with varying brightness when stationary
Im confused?

both your oil and generator lights should light up when u turn the key into the on position and then go out when the engine starts, if your genny light stays on while driving, provided you have it on the right terminal then you have a charging problem. get a multi meter onto your battery terminals and see what kind of voltage you get? should be around 13.5 if the battery is charging

you may have the wires around the wrong way

With ignition off, it read about 11.80
I tried starting it, took two tries. After the first try it dropped to about 11.40 at minimum
When i started it, went back up to 11.80 and after revving it goes a little past 12 to at most probs 12.30/40

Also how do i get the cover off my regulator to check the contacts?
Is it just the two screws? as its hard to pull even after these, just wanna be sure so i dont ruin it

depending on the regulator theres normally a star or hex screw in the center top, u need to undo this.

The two wires were diagonally opposite and the green didnt have enough length to reach anywhere else
Heres some pics to help you help me :)
