Squeaky sound front end
Blue65 - May 15th, 2009 at 09:36 PM

Hi,

When the Beetle comes to a stop. There is a squeaking sound coming from the front end.

I had the Beetle lowered about 5 years ago by AVWPC.

Just worried that the whole thing will fall out.

How difficult is it to pull the whole body off from the floorpan btw?

You didn't run ova somebody or something that is still alive around there? lol

Body of the pan is simple. google it for a tutorial. Simply a matter of taking the fuel tank out, disconnecting the steering column at the steering box under neith the tank, and undoing an assortment of bolts (2 in the front under the bonnet, just in the front side of the fuel tank connecting the body to the front beam suspension, 4 or so bolts inside and under the back seat, a bolt either side in the rear wheel wheels, and ALL the heaps of bolts on either side of the car underneith from front to back. If no one has put any after market nuts and bolts through, then pretty much every bolt u see underneith the body on the floor pan part has to be taken out.

get a jack and 'break' the seal between the body and chassis by putting it under the a pillar or b pillar with a block or something to even the load and not mark the body... jack it up, the body should start to detach from the chassis easily.

Once the seal all round is broken just get some buddies and lift off.

Enjoy :P

I had it checked out - seems there was no grease in the front end. Boris patched it up - all good now. But one of the king pins is loose and needs replacing.
