I thought i would start a new thread cause i reckon this is almost a new topic
This is my last post on Daisy's dilemas -
"I reckon it WAS the electronic ignition and i fixed it with the 009.
But i reckon the 009 is CRAP!
The points just aint got guts. I went and checked a set of points on and old stock dizzy i have and there is force in them. These in the 009 are limp.
Its night now and when i statically time it when the points close you can see it arcing - its not a solid "click" on and "click"
off.
Hmmm.... i think tomorrow i will borrow the Magfire out of the bug and try that in the kombi. See how that goes."
Anyone got a coment on the quality of 009's. This is Bosh but it is out of Brazil.
Its a bit like my IDF's. I have an old Alfa set of IDF 36's from Italy. I have seen "new" IDF's from Spain and they just dont
feel as good.
But this 009 i have is really feeling poxy.
Hmmm i will be really happy when i get to the end of this one!
If you ask for XU1 points they have a stronger spring then the standard ones. If they tell you they do not exist tell them to check their book as they definately do
Thanks for that Andy - but i think i will just go for a Magfire.
For the $100 it cost for Blue i am happy. It has worked well. The only thing that has been a pain is it has those silver coloured hard wires that you
have to crimp terminals on. Those wires dont seem to like the crimps and if theay are not pushed on hard you can get a real bucking/back fire
IF it is not this then i am in BIG trouble - but i think i am on the right track.
If i just start it and shut it down it fires up ok. If i let it idle till i have backfire and trouble i cant start it again until i clean the points
and set the timing again.
I wisk i had that NRMA coil pack to test it with again!
You know that I'll always jump on this band wagon....
Do yourself a favour and put in a Good Bosch SVDA, the timing needs to be done differently, but once worked out you should find better economy (and
probably better engine life ) once tuned to Not Spray in the extra fuel that the 009 needs " so as not get flat spot ".
I put a SVDA on this Kombi , its an auto and the old set up would never have got 28 MPG as this one can.
Get rid of the points by all means but I wouldnt pass the Vacuum advantage.
Now that I'v got that off my chest - I'll go SUCK on a Crownie.:beer
I agree with Glenn
I had a 009 on the kombi & did not like it, have gone back to the vacuum dizzy, much better!
Rob.....
the build quality of the 009's is not so good. They all work, but seem to vary in the amount of advance in them. some seem to have the internal
stops in slightly different stops. This is why it is important to set your timing as total advance, so you can see what your getting. Setting static
advance does not tell you what your total will be.
as for the points, some 911 points fit too, they also have a stiffer spring.
what is svda, i might of heard the acronym but not sure
Don't bag the 009.........there could be a lawsuit

The reason i couldnt get Daisy to fire WAS crap build quality. The points in the NEW 009 were CRAP!!!. have a look at the picture. There is NOWHERE
near the tension of the old set!
I bviught ANOTHER set and set is purring.
Anyway -
A SVDA is a Single Vacuum Dual Advance
distributor
It is a distributor that has both vacuum and machanical advance
First of all here is proof of the crap quality coming out of Brazil.
The top points are an old German set - the bottom are BRAND NEW
As dfor the 009 - yes they are cheap - but i wanted a "quick fix" to get the girl going again.
Yes a SVDA could be the thing.
It actually had a DVDA (dual vacuum) on her with electronic ignition
I am just pleased i got her going again
CRAP camera as well
The top pic shows the spring at about 90 degrees to the base - the new points are lucky to be 35 degrees. There was just NO tension. The spring is
just weird.
The replacement werent much better - but better.
The originals werea solid feel.
Just will see how it goes - if i go S/DVDA or 009 and Magfire.
All i am saying is when you buy your new points - CHECK THEM!
The SVDA is actually made in mexico and aircooled.net recommend replacing the points that come with it on their website. The info they sent with the dizzy says they can be kept and they seem OK to me, but I have a magfire anyway (and the German points from my original dizzy as a backup.)
Has anybody ever wondered what it must be like to drive/maintain/repair a whole Brazilian car??:jesus:jesus
Ive got 3 fitted to my cars and aint had any problems with them,
There at least 5 years old so may be the build quality was better then.
You talking 009's dave?
The dizzy itself is quite good.
It was the crap points inside it.
Yeah 009 dissy, but fitted with Bosch S11 points, these work better.
Kombikim..... A whole Brazillian car...ummmmm
maybe like an early xxxxxxxxx oh cant type that might get litigious
why are we blaming sloppy points on the 009?
XU1 and 911SC points are the same according to the bosch box. But you will need to adjust them more frequently as the rubbing block doo-dat wears
faster. I've gone back to the normal points. If you arent using high revs and having the points bounce then I dont see the point.
Quote: |
I've used both without any hassles. Maybe if you just changed the points... doesnt matter.
I have had the same points in my '68 type 1 for ages. As for all these problems you seem to be having are you blaming the right thing? leads,
condenser, cap may have a crack that may not be easy to see.... The standard Bosch GB534 points work well, can't remember the XU1 points part
number but when you get them they have higher tension, other option is the vented style of the standard points.
Curious though.. what revs are you pulling for them not to have enough tension?
As for the combi, What engine have you got? A type 4. If so why are you using the 009 in it? Most would use an 050 mech advance dist in standard
form. The advance curve is a bit better on the Type 4.
If you want a good electronic dizzy set up try the ones Vintage and Richard of force four sell they work pretty shit hot at well over 6 thou

The car ran fine when the NRMA put their coil pack into my leads and dizzy. I put the 009 and it ran fine - then crap. I replaced the points and it
ran fine. I replaced the points with Magfire and it is fine.

- you could start it and let if idle and it would play up after a couple of minutes. The points went so high resistance you couldnt set the timing
with a volt meter.

Yes CU 2L auto

-Cheap

Richard of V Force was happy for me to put hte 009 in with the mag fire. Not draging him into it but it is running great with the 009 and Magfire - as
good as it ever has. FOr $200 for the reapirs and 2 sleepless nights i am happy with the outcome. My problem all stemed from crap points. As for Hi Po
- i will leave that to Blue2. Daisy will never see 4k let alone 6k!
