Is this vehicle going to be registered?

If the car is intended to be registered as, for example a dune buggy, you need to talk to an engineer before you do anything else.

Modifying any vehicle chassis, which includes shortening a VW body pan, causes the vehicle to become a NEW CAR.

Be careful. You could be about to walk blindfolded into a registration nightmare.

See an engineer.

well said. Didnt think you were able to shorten pans anymore. Most fiberglass body's available now are for a standard wheel base I think..

You can lengthen a car, you can widen a car, but you cannot shorten a car and register it as a modified vehicle. As shaihulud said it becomes a new car. This means it has to comply with ICV and current ADR's. You must see an engineer before starting or you may end up with scrap metal.
