sticky oil breather pipe
dubsurfer - June 6th, 2009 at 11:01 AM

Mornin...........I have a 1978 Dc (type 4 motor) The engine was rebuilt 10000 kms ago and has suddenly lost some of its power. The only thing i can see is that the oil breather pipe (from box on top of motor to air filter box) is sticky and black.........have not checked filter yet (im still at work He He) my suspicion is that this will be clogged and that is why I have lost power..engine feel s strangled
Why is my motor sending black crap up through the breather.........im confused. Regards to all

first thing to do would be pull all the plugs and see what state there in
if ur getting that much blow by to that it will be obvious with the plugs that something isnt right

The absolute first thing you check when looking at lack of power is the air filter. Start with the simplest things and get harder from there.

Hmm i had something similar to this it was like petrol some how mixed with the oil, i was left with a cluggy black blueish mess took me a week to get it all out :P (changing oil daily). I think my problem was oil leaking past the injector and then passing into the block past the rings. But never really fixed it as i tore the motor down and am still rebuilding it.

thanks guys, new filter and plugs point etc seems to have done the trick
still not sure why i am getting vapourised oil through breather pipe. The oil is new.
My Ute seems to catch way more dust than the kombis i have run in the past any suggestions to improve breathing capability
Gotta love this forum, no more head scratching, click click click and the answer s come my way, thanks again guys.........
