Piston Rings Installation
pmacken01 - July 15th, 2009 at 02:44 PM

I've just bought a new top end for a 1600cc engine, and I was wondering if anybody can confirm the order of the piston rings and which way up they go.

The lower one is no problem (Oil scraper). I don't believe there is a up or down with this one, but perhaps somebody can confirm that.

The second ring has an indentation around the outside of the ring. Does this need to face up or down?

The upper most ring has a chamfered edge on the inside edge of the ring. Does this need to incerted up or down?

I'm not sure if there is enough info here or if I'm clear with my description, but any questions please let me know.

Cheers

Is it a groove or dot on the second ring, if its a groove then install as Pod said, if its a dot or dimple it goes up.

dont forget to gap the rings, and dont forget the orientation when installing either
