Windscreen advice for a Karmann Ghia??
isky - July 17th, 2009 at 05:11 PM

Hi all...please help me!

Ok here is what i want to do....its a little confusing to explain so ill try and take it slow and step it out.

1. I have a red 1960 Ghia parts car that i want to take the front and rear windshields and chrome molds out of and put them into my brown 1961 Ghia. Basically because the glass is better and the chrome is really nice. But the rubbers are hard and cracked.

2.The chrome moldings on my red car are the "T" style moldings. and the Chrome moldings on my brown car are the "C" style.

After researching it a bit am i correct in saying that the "T" style should be fitted to the 1966-1974 model cars? So by the looks some one has put them on my red parts car afterwards?

3. Anyway i just want to be sure that the windshields and its chrome moldings from my 1960 red parts car will work in my 1961 brown good car...

and i don't need to get the rubbers that have corners on them right?

Thanks in advance...

Anthony

ps. im buying from over seas because they sell for about $30-50 each (U.S)....where as i just called one of the popular outlets recommended to me on this forum and they quoted me $174 inc.GST each .

has anyone bought these from an online OS site and can recommend someone?

I bought a set from Vintage a few years ago, they were expensive at the time but.............!

i know, quite expensive....

there's know reason why i should get burnt from ordering on-line...especially if i get feed back from members on here who have done the same (and i know a lot have). Ive ordered lots of stuff for my ghia from over seas, had no problems and saved lots of money. Just need to verify that a 60 Ghia shield with the "T" section chrome mould fits a 61 Ghia....

Vintage had good customer service though. At least they talked to me over the phone and gave me quotes etc. Not like most other suppliers ive dealt with who say they'll email you prices and you never hear from them again.

well i can only advise u from experience the yanks just dont care or understand your needs

especially with year models and details like you need for the correct rubber

i know a crap load of Australian companies like that also...That's why its good to get recommendations like im trying to do. Besides, Ive always found American companies very helpful, especially where V-W stuff is concerned...not like most Australian ones ive come across...

Getting back to my question...

Anyones help and info would be appreciated :)

all year coupe screens are interchaneable (not sure about convertables). i have a 70's laminated screen in my 60 coupe and i used the 't' mouldings and rubber, have got a set of 'c' mouldings but couldn't source front and rear rubbers to match.
